ok I may have gotten the terminology wrong. I probably ment the mass air flow sensor. doesn't that go off?

my car was screaming when I installed a cone filter.

what is with the hostility? I simply asked a question from experience. sure we can get things wrong. just asking a question, gosh.

can the wrong air/fuel mixture not cause pinging? why don't you educate some of us then. I don't know what I am talking about.

            no hostility mate,,its a discussion.

obviously since you are adding more air through a pod filter you would drink more fuel.so if anything with the fuelling would happen,it would make it run more rich than lean(pinging is lean). if your car is pinging it has nothing to do with a pod filter.it will be from other issues as per your problem post which I refered to.

                Hi cOS,
I'm sure there was no hostility involved and I'm sure nobody intended to offend.

I think the first thing that you need to do is to stop guessing about the terminology, and don't be afraid to ask questions, there is a wealth of information on this site and many people who are happy to pass on their knowledge and experience.

Perhaps you should describe the specific problem and I'm sure someone will have some answers for you.

                Cheers

Well it was a really fun mod. YES power(actually probably more like acceration sensitivity increased) YES gain no money spent!! The little vr6 sounded like mini v8 no joke. have to warn you I did have/felt a but power loss on high revs (keep in mind it was stock air filter) about in the 4-5k rpm region.

You can have a go with my air box before you do yours if you desire, more than welcome. Matter of fact my friend was so impressed, I drilled a few holes in his 206 GTI. He was laughing all the way home.

With the pod filter similar tone but more aggressive, obviously no power loss and just a little sucking sound, I can imagine it will sound really nice with mid and rear muffler replaced.
thumbs up for the 90 bucks spent.

i sense hostility because you seem to find my problems funny.

what about the MAF? do you know how that sensor works and what information it obtains?

I doubt the pinging has anything to do with my previous problems. those problems are fixed, some many years ago.

thanks for the assurance george. I don't have a problem. my car just needs an oil pan gasket change, thats about it. would you like to change it for me?

I did ask a question, that was my point. a long time ago when I installed a coned filter, my car was pinging like hell. so I had to revert to the panel. that is from experience, hence my question. besides, my car always pinged lightly up a hill on third gear or so. varying the fuel quality doesn't help. anyway, that is going off topic, lets stay on the air filter shall we.
