Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Yeah I think they get a little less bouncy over time, and you definitely get use to it. you will only need the front aligned as there is very little in the back they can change, and chances are they wouldnt anyway. When you book one tell them its lowered and see if thats okay for them. ive been unhappy with a couple alignments done on mine, so if you know somewhere local that you've heard good things about from vw people or a mechanic or something id definitely go with them over a random out of the phone book. Ive had to show one guy I was paying how to adjust some things on mine before and they still didnt get it quite right. I think some places just get it so the car drives somewhat straight, or straighten up the steering wheel and leave it at that, after my last alignment most things weren't even close to being in spec.

Oh and to answer the adjusting question, id just get it done at your daily height and not worry about it when you drop it. just take note of how high it was and put it back to that same height. Changing just the height shouldnt change things much and wont cause crazy tyre wear, aslong as you dont unbolt anything it should be okay.

After not driving a modified car for a year. Getting back in my car with stretched tyres was a nightmare. If it didn't have a sick engine/exhaust note I wouldn't drive it at all. Not that I do now

This is how I normally do it.

Give the suspension a week or so to settle/sag. (some do, some don't)

Set the ride height to where you want it. (for looks, comfort etc)

        Get wheel alignment.

If you want to lower it for a show or something, record exactly where you had the coils wound previously, and you should be able to return it to being smack on.

Give Craig at Trackside race and rally a bell. He's done my very slammed mk 3 before, and pretty low mk 1.

missed this thread! Look after it! The colour concepts are pretty rare cars

Keep up the good work, and if you're out and about on a Friday night and want to have a chin wag, a bunch of us go down to Dub Addictions factory for a bbq. We're there every week

Thanks yeah sounds good I'll have to come down some time soon! I never see enough VWs around

Might as well have a quick update, I'll probably buy paint for my wheels this week, and I'm going to do a big detail soon. Swirl marks are beyond ridiculous

Also just out of interest, is anyone going to that cruise for charity organised by street commodores? I've got a bogan mate with a VN commodore who wants me to bring the VR6 down, I'll probably be the only VW there haha, thought I might as well go anyway though

Wow, how about this potential for stock wheels?

Since I'm too poor to buy wheels (thanks uni), I've bought a whole lot of paint and I'm doing them gloss black. I wonder how this diamond cut lip would look on my car. Does anyone know about prices for diamond cutting?

I'll be in ballarat tonight but next week would be cool for sure! What wheels are you putting on next then?

And Jarred I just looked into polishing and I'll definitely do that. Not sure whether to paint the wheels first then polish or polish lip then mask the lip up for paint.

I'm also working on my centre caps at the moment with some paint, it might end up kinda ghetto but I removed the aluminium plates on them and prepped them and I'm painting them black background with a red vw logo with a stencil I cut up. Has potential to look really good or really ****ty we'll soon find out
