Had a long and tiring day, but it was fun! Installed hot tuning coilovers purchased from evorobin, all went well and now here we are! I took a couple of quick phone photos at the car wash tonight because I've been too excited to wait til tomorrow! So here is how it sits now:

I'm really pleased with how it's looking! This is almost wound down all the way, I raised them an inch at the front because it just felt a bit too front heavy when steering. Tires rub on the guards at full lock but not much, and due to a slight amount of camber, tires are rubbing on the springs. If anyone has a solution for that please let me know. I was thinking camber bolts but I haven't really looked into them yet because I'm tired! I'm going to get a wheel alignment in a couple of weeks once these settle in.

STILL A LOT TO DO! I've got some painting to do. Rims are going to be gloss black with red wheel nuts and a red VW logo which i'm going to stencil and spray onto the centre caps because the stickers are pretty stuffed. Side mirrors are going black too, I'm painting the old stock grille black with a blacked out badge. The list goes on!

Pretty stoked with how it's all going at the moment, it's incredible how much better these cars looked when low

Cars looking sweet! I think if you paint your old grill leave the bottom metal slat red. It looks weird when the whole thing is black in my opinion.

Niiice. Good to see you went all the way down, none of this 'I'll see how it is'

I have camber bolts in mine, and my max camber is only 1.5degrees. Helps when I have 20-30mm poke.

Thanks mate, yeah I meant leaving the bottom bar red, top 2 bars and badge blacked out

I'll look into the camber bolts tomorrow. Where did you get them from? And how much were they? I don't really understand how camber bolts actually work yet :S I was thinking about spacers but I'm assuming they'll cost a lot more than camber bolts, I don't have much money, plus I'd need longer bolts on the wheel and I'd have more guard rubbing which would require rolling etc etc.

Camber bolts are like $20, scattered all over fleabay, one bolt per side. They were ready installed on my car but.

The easiest way to think of their function, is like a camshaft. At different points of the lobe there is more camber.

I've heard if two per side gives a fair bit of camber but not sure on the safety aspects etc.

Just took some photos in the daylight today:

so next up, a whole lot of painting. But unfortunately before that I'm going to have to install a new radiator because mine is leaking at the moment -_- luckily it isn't much of a big deal, should be about 240-250 off GAP and it doesn't seem very difficult to DIY

Cars looking fresh in that colour ! Where abouts is it leaking? in the hoses? could easily patch it up or replace the hoses if its leaking. But since you said your radiator is leaking then i guess not. there going for about $200 on ebay for the alluminum ones. Gl with it though. Get a 2nd opinon on diagonses though.

Thanks mate, I got a pressure test from a mechanic I trust who said it was te radiator and i have also noticed you can see where coolant has burst out under pressure, so it'll definitely be the radiator

Car looks really good! good work. Love the red.

As said in pm, you shouldn't need camber bolts to fix the rubbing, you can get a bit of adjustment out of the standard bolts. You probably have max negative camber set. Thats what happened to me when I put my coilovers in the first time becuase I wasn't sure how to adjust it. You can just untighten the two bolts that attach the shock to the hub knuckle thing, and adjust the camber by like changing the angle it sits at (like pull on the brake disc or something a bit) if you know what I mean. It is really simple actually. I'd give that a try first, chances are you wont need camber bolts unless you need a lot of camber adjustment, which on stock wheels you really shouldnt.

once you 'settle' on a ride height, pop out and get a wheel alignment, they'll fix the camber.

if it's rubbing quite badly, either raise it up so it doesn't rub, or pull the camber out yourself as Ben said. Easy as pie to do.

Spot on Ben, had a go at that this arvo, only took 20 mins. I grabbed the brake disc and pulled it towards me while the bolts were loose while a mate torqued them up and it's all good now. Managed to do a fair bit of damage on one tire that rubbed a ****load in the last 24 hours -_- with only about 15-20km of driving! oh well. I probably could have guessed that considering it smelt like I was driving through a burnout contest for that whole time

Steering alignment will have to be done soon, it's pretty annoying like this! I've heard its best to wait a couple of weeks to let the coilovers "settle in", is that true? Jarred do you suggest any decent places for that around here for a steering alignment? I'm sure it can't go too wrong. Wouldn't mind a decent price too!

Thanks for the kind words guys

Just got home from driving and I feel kind of ill like I'm still bumping up and down kind of like after being out on a boat... The ride quality is as expected, atrocious. I went over an intersection where the ruts were so bad that I popped up off my seat! If you multiply every bump by at least 10, that's what it feels like! haha BUT it looks mad and feels amazing going around corners! Basically no body roll to speak of. Still, I think I'll raise it just a little bit more to get a bit more comfort. Also tested it over a series of different speed bumps ranging from the big fat ones that are easy to get over to the narrower taller ones that you have to go over at 1kph at a 45 degree angle. Didn't scrape!

If you couldn't be bothered reading all that crapping on, I'm just wondering if you need a wheel alignment whenever you adjust the coilovers or if it's just needed once. I wouldn't mind raising it a little as a daily driver but for special events just slamming it to the floor

Looking good mate. You'll get used to the bumpiness of the ride. When i switched my suspension back to stock to clear a defect i missed the bumpiness so bad haha. A wheel alignment shouldn't cost you much as the mk3 has a fixed rear so they only have to do the front. From then on if you only adjust the coils and don't undo the bolts on the bottom of the struts you should be sweet!
