  • Vr6 issues!!

Ok so here goes - I took my vr6 that was running perfectly fine (aside from a whining fuel pump and the thermos running at weird times!) off the road to put my coils in. A job that shoud have taken a day has stretched into 2 months now cause I cant get the last shocks bolt undone and have had to take a sabbatical from the car before I burn it to the frame!!
So the other day I go to start it and the battery's flat (probably from me having the hatch open while I worked on the coils.
So I recharge it and start it up and its running rough as rough, coughing and spluttering and acting like it has a fuel delivery issue.
So I think ahhh - I cant hear any whining anymore the fuel pump has finally died! I change that out this morning and its still running rough and coughing and spluttering at idle.
Code on the guages says IN02 but as far as I know that is just a service reminder code??
Now the battery is dead again and even though it appaears brand new I'm wondering if the battery has had it as well. But that shouldn't be the source of my problems right??
I am at a loss and getting pretty frustrated as the car has been off the road for ages now and I'm stuck car pooling with my girlfriend!!
    Can anyone help?

Haven't had much experience with this before but I'll take a stab: have you checked your distributor?

Do you have VAGcom. (program used to scan codes) This will help identify your problem.

Meem - yeah coilpack is the distributor - I havent checked it for sparks yet (battery is flat) but I'm thinking that could be it.

Water Boy - dont have VAGcom - need it though!

VAG-COM or VCDS from Ross-Tech is a great little tool but the genuine cables are a few $$. If your only planning on using it on the VR6 the eBay knockoff cables will do 95% of the job with the old (and free) version of the genuine software.

It's also worth considering one of the hand held scanners instead.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

get a big muscle man to show the bolt who's the boss
or buy a 20kg dumbell set an get busy
or try spraying some WD-40 or somesort of multipurpose spray, let it set, an then try opening again (wipe the bolt head dry, you dont wanna round it).

Too late - on closer inspection, thats the problem!! Not stoked! So I got that going on (3 coils and one lowered stock suspension!!)
Plus the things running on 5 cylinders or something!

is it running a cylinder down or just rough? It will sound a bit like a mean WRX if she is only running on 5.
Check for spark leaking from any of the leads. Even if they are new they are easy to damage if you dont use the correct tool to install/remove them. Scan for codes definately. What part of Melbourne are you from? I might be able to give you a hand scanning the car.

                      Hey Tim,

I'm in Mordialloc, it doesn't sound like its on 5 cylinders - it acts like theres a fuel issue, really rough - you couldn't drive it at all.
Have to put the pedal down just to get it to stay running in idle! Really weird considering it was fine before I stopped driving it.

have you changed stuff after it come off the road other than the suspension? If so its likely to be related to one of those things.

hey dude, i could be wrong,
but i had a real similar issue after my car had sat for like 2 months,
i had to keep reving to keep it going, then it died
ended up being the contact switch in the ignition...
