How often do ye get your VR6's serviced?

I ask since mine is due next month, but its nowhere near the kilometres for next service (249,000 vs an actual 243,xxx). Should I bother?

every 12 months or 15000 kms according to the service manual. I do mine every 10,000 cos i find the oil tends to be nice and black by then

Mines pretty close to black, but I dont drive it very often, maybe only 2-3 times a week.

Hurrah for taking the train to work

          Who knows

It'll be a minor service, since the last one was a major.

I change the oil and filter every 5-7.5k. Is not expensive if you buy filters in bulk from the US.

Trans is meant to be for the life of the box. Mine has only been changed once as i had the 1-2 gear crunch. (Now gone)

I change my oils every 15k km or so; given and take a couple of thousand.

the type of service would most likely depend on how many km's the car has done. I am not sure what they do at the mechanic shops. I would assume they check all engine lubrication and cooling system in addition to replacing needed parts.

Re-reading Tim's post again, I may just wait until I hit 10,000k's. I'm also stone broke and I need new tires soon. No service for a while would be much nicer on the wallet.

                  service intervals

If you dont meet the km service interval It is recommended that your oil change intervals are every 6 months. Note: the highest engine wear takes place during starting & warm up phase. So if your car gets started up & driven to the shops 3 times a week (say 3kms there & back) your engine is taking a pounding !!!!! If like mine (a hobby car) gets started for club events & or the occasional emergency say 1-2 per month & driven 20km or more, the oil change is then governed by the colour of the oil. e.g. when the oil starts to go dark. Thats my 55 years experience in the motor trade. Remember oil is cheap insurance!!!! (except for the new diesel longlife stuff) Bazz

                      6 Months you say...

My cars only tend to get a service every 12 months since we put bugger all KM's onto them. Although both cars are daily drivers which get started and driven to the station/shops with occasional longer trips.

Maybe it's time to start doing these things more regularly...

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

This is true but also incorrect.

Any time over that you need to be changing the oil.

                        Just worth a mention

When I do drive my dub, its usually a 40km round trip to nightspots on the weekend
