Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

hey fells, yep im a noob to the VR6 thing.

so i have decided that i will be upgrading the exhaust system on the VR6...

some people say 2.5 others say 2.25 diameter...

    whats optimum and why?

2.5 tried, tested and dyno'd showing better performance. There's a thread on vortex which someone posted up here not that long ago that covers all vr6 mods

I've had a variety of exhausts on mien dub so maybe I can help.

When I got the car it had a 2.5" straight-through system. VERY loud, sounded awesome at full revs gave great power but lousy low end torque for tootling around.

Then ditched the straight through muffler for a "sports" one. Much quieter, a little bit more torque but still great top end go.

Then ditched that for a 2.25" mangaflow system imported from the US. Lost a lot of top end but gained a noticeable increase in torque for around town which has been very welcome. Unfortunately though the magnaflow has a pretty bad resonance issue so it'll be departing at some point.

Only poor exhausts drone. I have a 2.5" Jetex exhaust on my VR6 and its not that loud at all. Made more power up top and down low over the standard 2.125" system

My exhaust is 2.5" and has a bit of a drone at 80, something I think I would change if I was driving any real distance. I also built mine with the intent of forced induction so 2.5" was the better choice.

I do have two resonators and a muffler but don't know if there would be a way to better "tune" the whole shebang to make it quieter… But then I do like the noise too

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.
