  • Mk3 Steering Wheel - Replace with New or second hand?

    Hi All

I am looking to replace my Mk3 sterring wheel as it is a bit shabby at the 1 o'clock position from use or either the sun over the years

Anyone know where to get one? and approx cost?

    Thanks

Try and find someone who's parting their car out and get a second hand one from them. Should be able to get one for a couple of hundred dollars. If you do go aftermarket remember it needs to have an air bag to be legal. VW Australia will rape you in every way possible on the price of one. So second hand is your best bet.

Or you could get your current one retrimmed in leather (or other material).
This can be done for around $150

As these cars are at least 10 years old, you will find a lot of them are wearing in similar places so hard to find one in perfect nick.

Exactly what I did. I procured a second wheel and had it (and the shift knob) retrimmed in shiny new leather then swapped them over. It was about $300 from memory.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.
