VR6 strange idle and stalling problem

So I wonder if the answer to this is obvious.

When I start my car it revs up to about 1200rpm and idles there for some reason. Obviously it should idle at 700-800rpm. When I went out today the car also stalled at the first stop sign. Occasionally the car struggles to start and needs a bit of accelerator. Once going for a few mins, the car tends to drive and idle fine!

FYI coilpack, plugs, and leads are brand new ~3000km ago.

What do peeps think? I can only think the MAF might need cleaning.

Is it throwing any error codes?
Do you know someone with VAG-COM who can check?
(even the cheap knock off's and the old version of VAG-COM work OK for scanning on the MK3 since it's relatively basic.
