    • Any exterior pics? I'm really keen to see this unpeeling in the process.

      • I think you'll have to chop a bit out of your shifter for the Mk4 knob AND shift boot to fit. Otherwise you might not be able to reach reverse.

        • yeah ray has a point, anyway I chopped mine and I'm very happy with the results - could have chopped a bit more even I think!

The pics of the paint underneath will come soon!

          • Updates on no updates, I have been very slowly polishing black paint off so no pics yet! I have also found my dream wheels, just have to wait a couple of months before I can get them. Gold bolts for my volks will be arriving next week from TM so hopefully will have my wheels together soon!

            • It coming off nicely? Its hard to believe you can just get rid of that paint and take it back to stock!

Still interested in those parts? We can work out a price if you want. I'm heading to the coast from the 28th-30th so you could grab them/I could drop them to you then if you like.

              • I wouldn't say nicely! It's the fiddly bits that suck to get off! But I'll get there, yeah definitely still interested in your bonnet and grille - did you get my pm about them?

Rather than polishing off the matt paint have you tried prepsol?

It may just wipe majority of it off and save you either a lot of cloths or polishing pads.

                    • I might try that - is there any chance it might ruin the clear coat (which is what I'm worried might happen with the buffer as well!)

                      • Just did some googling, seems it's safe as long as you don't let it dwell on the paint. I would speak to either a panel beater or automotive chemical supplier to make sure.

You will probably scratch the original paint a little during removal but a machine polish should bring it back.

                          • I've used it on a whole car before that was an ex-painters car and was covered in millions of speckles of house paint.

All I did was soak a cloth in prepsol and wiped over an area at a time and after each section used a dry cloth to remove.

For instance I would break a a quarter panel into about 3 or 4 sections at a time.

                            • went and spoke to the paint guy today, he said cutting compound and a machine buffer is my best bet! Back to the hard slog I guess!
Also I fixed this issue today:

Nowhere near as scary as I thought pulling the airbag off etc - sometimes I love vw engineers, they can be so logical! Wish I could say the same thing about the suspension! My wheel is hammered as well, but reluctant to put a momo on or something and lose my airbag, I am looking for a mk 3.5 cabby wheel at the moment if anyone knows of one!
Anyway indicator issue dealt with, it works perfectly now! I actually think I could have saved the oem one as I think the contacts might have just been gunked up with dust, but the new oem one was all nice and unmarked so I ran it anyway. job done.

Now more buffing / cutting and thinking about wheels and how satin black will look on a mystic blue car.

found these 2 pics for a bit of an idea:

Was also thinking that bronze wheels could look pretty awesome as well

                              • Nice work.. Bronze would look amazing depending on the pattern. Should stick with OEM Wheel, good quality ones are hard to come by and queensland laws states - "Steering wheels
