I remember reading in a mag or forum.

1. heat with hair dryer

2. slip tooth floss inbetween badge and body (no scratches 99% guranteed ) and slid down etc

3. wash off remaining glue

May work may not

yeh that was in an autosalon mag a while back, I've tried it on a honda and it worked. I haven't tried it on a golf but i'm thinking i might give it a go.
fishing wire can also be used but floss is thinner, and almost as strong.

I wouldnt mind getting rid of the lock but then u need to rig up a boot release. Also im not sure about mounting of the license plate lights since the factory ones the bulbs stick out a bit.

Are you planning on doing this? It does look nice and clean i must say, tho even with the tailgate piece shaved wiper + badge looks neat.

I like that... only hate though is that the plate recess looks much shorter. My opinion would be for the handle to remain.

Agree with you, it does look nice, clean and subtle.
The hatch would need a popper to make it open, and lots of little jobs to do to make a good job of it. Steel needs to go in the VW badge hole.

Lighting? just use some bright LEDS so the plate is visable. The 3 holes in the glass that the wing is bolted on with can be filled with silicon or plugs....

I did that on mine before, using the fishing line and some lub(CRC, WD40 etc.)
Easy job taking it off, but gettin out the harden tape is the worst
