    hey all

    i was just wondering how would one go on about debadging ur rear badge, seems like it would be a bit tricky, cus its not sitting on the surface

    anyone done it?

    are u talking about the rear VW badge? not worth it. ud have to respray the rear hatch after smoothing the indent. Wear your VW badge with pride i say!

      Best way (but not the only) would be to grind off the badge and reweld in a piece of metal in, filling in any indented spots, sanding, and respraying. A lot of work, but that's the way to do it if you want a smooth hatch. Filling in the cavity would be much easier, but it'll crack on you one day.

        i meant removing for a respray only, not for good, my mistake...
        i need to remove it and stick it back again, with minimal or nona damage to aether badge or paint
        i figured since everything is white or black i might as well lose chrome badge too, respray in black with clear coat over the top, will look sweet

          Pfft u haters, the spare hatch im working on will get fully debadged and despoilered!

          As to remove the existing badge just use a flat blade screw driver and slowly pry it off. If ur too rough you'll scratch the paint or u could break the VW off its plastic base. Its only held by glue but u gotta be careful!

            Like what Pedro said. Make sure you have a heat-gun (blow-dryer works fine) to make the job easier. Make sure you don't mess up the back covering of the badge. It's a plastic backing with rubber surround so if you distort it during debadging, it might not sit as nicely when you put it back on.

              i painted my front vw badge black.. couple coats of blk then some clear.. looks good in blaK.

                I remember reading in a mag or forum.

                1. heat with hair dryer

                2. slip tooth floss inbetween badge and body (no scratches 99% guranteed ) and slid down etc

                3. wash off remaining glue

                May work may not

                  aahh yeah. just heat it a bit and pry it off with a flat blade. put your finger between the flat blade and the paintwork tho so you are levering against your finger. I have removed mine a few times. its just held on with double sided tape

                      What a coincidence, just did mine on Saturday. Not hard at all, took me 45 min all together.

                      HEY DEEMOIII PM me, tell you more things to look out for.

                      Yep use Floss, there is not need for ANYTHING else, thats the easy part. Slip behind then cut away literally 5 sec job, RAYRAY mentioned a heat gun/ hair dryer wish I knew earlier, I use whole heap of methol instead, and rubbed too hard, kinda "dipped" in to metal but no biggie, just pushed it out again. I guess we learn from experience.

                      in terms of respraying I would eventually do the whole car, I figued coils are more important. It's just a little insignificant tan line, I purposely use a flash w/ photo to show ALL THE FLAWS. So judge youself, thats the worst it gets.

                      SO what I used.
                      1. FLOSS
                      2. METHOL
                      3. GOOD CLEAN
                      4. CLAY bar + more clay bar
                      5. finish off with a layer of tender loving WAX and POLISH
                      6. Then stand back and have a good beer.

                      then WAH LA ...



                      Found new home for the badges.

                        Oh.. forgot to mention that my intention was not to debadge, just wanted a nice clean, I wore the badges with pride.
                        but tried 3M tape, didn't quite stick. Blue tack.... what was I thinking!!! Silicon.. figured it needed a rough surface area, wasn't willing to sand the paint off. So what the heck....

                        This is the gunk/plastic sticky thing rayray was talking about, it actually mold the shape of the badge wasn't glue for sure.

                          Floss would be a bit harder on the VW badge though! You might catch it in between the rubbers and the plastic backing. If I still had it in one piece I would have take a pic of it (haha don't ask).

                          As for the Golf/VR6 emblems, floss does works wonders. I used Goof Off first to clean up the glue residue, then like soundofavr6, clay, polish and wax to keep it nice and consistent with the rest of the paintwork, since it hasn't been exposed since it came out of the factory.

                          Anyway, here's the Goof Off I'm talking about - works great to get bug/tar/sap that cannot be easily removed from heavy rubbing and car wash.

                              If do the VW badge, thats not hard either. Had to take mine off to respray from sun damage.

                              I bascially wrapped tissue paper on a phillip head, just so enough space I can get my fingers in, with a little twist it comes right off.

                              The VW logo sits on a plastic cup so bacially it's 2 piece. Taking off is easy but glueing on without glue squiting out is trick. Because inbetween the vw is a groove
                              .*. only minimal space to work glue around.

                              If I were you fill in the groove/space with thick glue, wait until it drys, sand to flatten it then apply more glue ON THE DRIED glue. So when you apply pressure it wouldn't squit out.

                              It will make logical scense after you have take it off. I know it sounds a bit weird.
