  • Has anyone fitted a fire extinguisher in their Mk3?

I've got Skyline Nats next weekend and I don't think I'll have my MX5 ready for the sprints on Sunday, so I'm thinking maybe I'll take the *cough*66kw*cough* Golf out instead. I made a good fire extinguisher mounting plate for the MX5

But I used the mounting points for the passenger seat rails on the floor and obviously thats not going to work in the golf because it doesnt have the rails bolted to the floor. Anyone have any other ideas? Has to be within reach of the driver

That's where mine sits. Drilled straight through the floorpan. Has been there for a few years now without moving or coming loose (even after a wee fang). I find my feet step over it when getting into and out of the car. Never tripped over it or anything.

Cheers, might mock that up tomorrow night and see what its like.

Discovered that I don't fit in the Golf with a helmet on though, so it won't be hitting the track. Non adjustable CL seat is too high and my Recaro on a GL height adjustable frame is also too high when at its lowest position. Also tried getting in the MX5 with the helmet on and the hardtop on, I could barely even get in, it was like dad's NSXR, my ear was almost on my shoulder hahaha

Mine is in the same place as MattyT's although in my case it's attached to the plactic trim piece. While it's never going to be as secure as being bolted through the floor it's never shown any sign of movement in the few years it's been there, including time on the track.

Yes you have to step over it getting in, No I haven't had any issues with hitting it. It seems once your into the car you don't touch it at all while it's in this position.

Not that it helps your case with it needing to be in reach of the driver, but prior to having it in the drivers cabin mine was mounted in the boot as shown. The beauty of this mount was that there was already a screw and a clip in that little cavity to hold it in place. So no drilling, no modification, just screw into place

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Lorenz has VR6 seats in his Mk3 I think? Maybe give that a go and if you fit in that, there's a complete set of VR6 seats on eBay (seller is Golf Loon on the forums).

Just put those VR6 seats in, it feels about one billionty times better to drive now.

Ended up running the work i30 Diesel for the track day because I could fit in that with a helmet on (just). Was much lol and understeer
