So today at like 10am ordered some brake pads from GSL rallysport, completely stunned when they arrived in the after noon :O

Even toowoomba -> toowoomba normally takes like 2098 days. Hopefully booked in for a major service + brake pads fitted/discs machined, and wheel alignment.

Also got a bit confused as to why when lowering one of the coilovers it wasnt actually changing the height, but thats got its own little thread

just read the whole thread, impressed mate. for someone on a tight budget this is coming along a treat pretty quickly. will keep posted to see how everything pans out. Wheels are a pain in the ass for VR6's being a 5x100 stud pattern. I had a Polo GTI with the same pattern and it was a nightmare finding wheels. The options ARE getting better but still nowhere near the selection of the golfs 5x112 fitment. Check out tirerack.com, they have awesome wheels at good prices, but expect to pay about $450 for shipping on top of the cost. Remember, the lower the offset the better

        Cheers,
        Rhys

          thanks

Tirerack does look like it has some nice deals, but yea the shipping can sting. The tax for orders over 1000 might make it a bit more expensive too, but yea, wheels are a little way off so will worry about that later.

Just placed an order with gap for some new heavy duty strut mounts, new indicator relay (lack of indicator at random intervals is starting to get dangerous) and the Bentley Bible.

Will not be buying much more for this thing for a while though, as do still owe parents a fair bit of money :/

May be time for the creativity to begin

Nice, its the same midnight blue as mine, looks good when polished up. I got my Monroe shocks from ebay america for 290 an bought some second hand bilstein springs an got them resized for 100 bucks. Got them professionally fitted an its sits beautifully now on 17'' audi rims, love the vr6's

Car is looking good, don't be afraid to raise it a little bit as that often gives much better ride quality and handling. A wheel alignment is definitely on the top of the list after changing suspension, so good to see it's getting done in the service!! A nice lip on the front and remus muffler would finish it nicely. By finish I mean just another mod, because there are a thousand different things to do to these cars!

thanks for kind words guys, and yea I have raised it a fair bit from totally slammed now, quite happy with the way i have it sitting (except that one corner is like 10mm higher then the other and cant adjust it cuase of shagged mounts -.-)

I don't know if ill ever get to a stage when i think this thing is finished haha :S Sometimes have to remid myself the thing is 16 years old and not a show car, but im noticing more little scratches/dings/stone chips every time i look. I'm thinking about what to do with the front lip, as tbh i don't really like the euro lip, but I also dont like the one thats on there now. A nice muffler would be nice, but next on the list when i have money is some new audio stuff, and even thats a few months off. Might get a little ricey and just add some shiny tips so it looks like i have something fancy haha

Hopefully the new strut mounts get here in time before the service or else ill have to cancell the wheel alignment, but I think GAP has sent the order out so we shall see.

So today put in new strut mounts, theyre sitting much more flsuh now and can adgjust the height again Also put in new indicator relay which seems to have fixed the indicator problem, and also flushed out the old coolant and put some pretty g12++ in (what a time consuming job that is )

anyway while i was messing around with coolant and such i noticed something

presmuming this isnt right... but im still new to the whole car thing so dont actually know what it is -.- may it be why the car is a little hard to start?

edit: so thats the pcv, looks likes theres a few options, time to get ym reasearch on

so last night i was thinking... if there is air being sucked into the intake after the maf, would that cuase it to run a bit lean, which is why i have to give it a bit of accelerator to get it started? Thats probably completely wrong but I'm only just learning bout this sort of stuff.

Would there be any real benefits from fitting an oil catch can like the stealth one here 42 Draft Designs

I had the same issue with a leak in that pipe. It was replaced with a straight bit of pipe which cracked, then I sent the simple way and blocked up the intake on the MAF and just put in an atmo vent. No ill effects so far and no real signs of any build up on the filter and I do check it every time I fill up (and the oil too) and give it a quick wipe over, but yeah, no problems that have surfaced

thanks hawk. I thought i had seen you post something like that before, but couldnt find it.

Would venting it to the atmosphere be legal? (although I'm pretty much screwed if a cop decides to vent some anger on me already)

                        edit to save double post:
also what sort of filter is that?

so took out the pcv and did something like hawks. Will be interesting too see what happens/how much oil builds up ect.

a more permanent/less green way to block the inlet to the intake would be nice, any ideas?

I use chair leg rubber tips from Clark Rubber:

They look like the ones on the top left of the pic.

Brake disks on a Golf should not be machined, but replaced. If you machine em, they will be undersize.
