vr6 pcv valve

This part of the intake boot on my vr6 is split and doesn't connect up anymore. How bad is this? When I started my car today it blew out a small cloud of blue smoke. Just wondering if it is somehow related to the pcv valve not being connected up right? Although then again, I hadn't driven my car for a week...

I also noticed that you can't buy this small section as a seperate part and you have to buy the whole intake boot if you need to replace it

Correct and from the stealer it's 300 bucks ish afaik. Yes I was an idiot when mine went...

Search vortex for PCV fixes, im pretty sure from GAP you can buy the replacement (still the whole assy), you cna buy one without the PCV, but the risk there i think is if you have a bit of blow by or something then that goes back into your intake.

Get an oil catch can system.

I think the HAWK has a small oil filter mounted to his as a breather too maybe? There are options..

I'm not a mechanic, but my opinion is that it was just cos you hadn't started it in a while. Don't think that valve would really have too much to do with it. Was it definitely blue?

iv deleted mine altogether and went with this

it just goes into the intake only with out the valve
i have no problems so far but i may have to clean the tb every 10000 or so
no biggie for me

Or you could just gt rid of it and put a breather on the end! Bit more responce and alot better.

What I still wanna know is, is it bad to run the car like that with that hose broken and disconnected?

Yes, that pipe is after the MAF so it’s cracked or broken it’s letting in un metered air. As was said you can simply put a breather in it’s place and block up the inlets on the intake.

Mine looks something like this:



There is a little bit more grime/residue, but since I check the oil every time I fill up I just give that filter a quick wipe over while I’m there and there isn’t an issue, but yes if you neglected it for a long period it would probably get very dirty.

reckon ill gove this a shot tommorow. spotted my PCV was cracked about ten mins ago while doing my air intake. What did you use to block the inlet? also if you can remember off the top of your head, what size is the breather opening?
off to supercheap to spend more moolah.

You can get the PCV valve separately from the the dealer if you use the one for the Sharan. Only thing is I'm not 100% sure if the PCV valve is exactly same as the mk3 golf VR6. It's still expensive, $137 NZD, but better than $300+ for the PCV and intake.

i did the breather fix and I think it was 20mm in diameter. but I got rid of it quick because the fumes would go straight through my vents and kill me inside everytime I stopped at the lights.

So I'm in the same situation now. Quite frustrating re having to buy the whole intake section. Barloworld said they'd do it for $260 but that's still a lot for parts I don't need. (See pic below). Has anyone done a DIY oil catch can? Is that a logical solution to the problem or just as expensive?
