Its never Gas with people selling cars. In my experience that means they put gas in and it syill didn`t work.
Big job to change the ac compressor on a VR6, not worth the time with a secondhand unknown compressor, new or reco is the only way and so factor in best part of a grand for the job.
Heater matrix is a dash out job, expect to pay $800 plus due to the labour involved.
The owner obviously knows this and so has priced the car accordingly.

Just looked at the link. This car used to be a NSW car with TIGAR number plates. Was a bit run down then and that was a few years ago. I still reckon its priced fairly. Even good VRs would struggle to get more than about $7k in 5 door form, so this is right pricing for a budget example.

is it me or does do a few other things look different/off, like the skirts and the rear bumper, and like the way the fuel cap door thing is sitting, around the headlights and even like the cracks between the doors and boot and stuff

It probably has misaligned doors and knocked about panels. It has done lots of ks and had a hard life. None of this will stop it blasting around the streets. If you want a tidy looked after example you need to pay more money.

And of course, the other way to achieve that is to go the 'hard yards' with this one as it'll get up to around the same cost anyway.

But it will be so much more satisfying at the end of the day though - to know you've "brought it back to life" so to speak...

do a good job and it could look much better then the other ones too...

Anyway as much as id love to take on a project like this... don't really have the time/tools/patience/another car to drive while it would be in bits. Oh and already have a trip to sydney booked, might take a look at dom's if he hasn't sold it, or something else while im down there

                        Noticed that

                        But, ohwell its 3grand?
A VW in that condition will outlast, outperform, and (possibly) be more reliable than any cheap Kia/rubbish car for the same money.
