  • Mk3 Vr6 Missfires????

Hi all hoping you guys can shed some light on this one.
There is an intermittant missfire in my car it only happens sometimes,
usually when your light on the trottle.
If you try to accel more it continues to miss then back off and accel again it goes away and runs normally??
I have noticed it is happening more often now than before.
Wondering if it could be the crank angle sensor??
If so does anyone know how much these generally cost?
    Cheers..

Doesnt sound like a crank sensor mate. i would be starting with the basics 1st. Plugs, leads coil, scan. Have it looked at mate, will be easier to diagnose when its actually doing it, so best taking it when its more frequent, but back to the top start at the basics 1st mate

Hope you find your problem, mine was spark leads. Try using your A/C, the car idles so much better, NO KIDDING. I live by that for a while LOL

Some really bad days I would turn on A/C just before I stop and when I take off I simply turn it off. Heavy traffic I just left it on....

i would be starting with the basics 1st. Plugs, leads coil,
I had problems with these parts about 1 year back so i had to replace them all, fixed my problem then but i doubt they would of failed already?
I have removed all of the plugs and cleaned them, they all looked nice except for cylinder 6 it was a little black and oily
I also changed the O2 sensor and engine speed sensor.
I might go get the car scanned this weekend, can anyone recomend someone close to melbournes west??

          Hope they grant me warranty.
What other options are out there for coil packs on these things??

Pete (mk3pete) has gone with an MSD coil setup, cost him about 550-600 all up which is around about the same price of some new coilpacks for our car. The MSD's are apparently very good and I'm sure Pete will chime in at some point to tell you more.

You can get coils for around 150-170 posted from ebay.co.uk if you don't want to go all the way with the msd set-up

gotta link? Are they brand new?
The prices in the US seem to have gone up over the past couple years. Sounds very cheap!

msds are good but there main weakness is relying on your old icm (ignition control module) from your old coil pack as they fail
to get a new icm means getting a new coilpack, i found this out the hard way!!!

if you go for oem i suggest getting this as it protects the coilpack from heat

brand new coilpacks are prone to fail so its best to protect it!!

OK, so the coils are fine. It is the ICM.
Anyone know of an ICM that I could use other than what comes with the coil pack?
As I really dont want to buy a whole new set up.
I am sure there would be a ICM that i could retrofit, Any suggestions?
                    Cheers!!

Found a company that makes independant ICM's and it will run off the standard computer!!!!
Awesome, $150 list price and all I have to do is wire it up shouldnt be too much hassle.
                        Happy days.

For $30 that spacer isn't too bad an idea... mind you I'm sure you could whip one up yourself locally for the same sort of cash (or less).

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.
