  • My time has come.

    Hey guys,

I ran into my first big problem today with the Vr.

I was driving home from work and noticed that the coolant level sensor was flashing, so pulled over and popped the hood, and I s*#t you not the whole engine bay was covered in coolant.

So I called into the servo down the road and filled the reservoir up and had a bit more of a look. Seems like there is a crack in the thermostat housing and is being sprayed out of it. It has been leaking for a while (Loon pointed it out to me a few months back) so IM guessing its finally gave way.

Anyways the car is at my aunt's at the moment, lucky she just lives around the corner from a VW mechanic. So ill drop it in tomorrow and see what the full extent is.

All part of owning a car I guess

So very true. I was kind of hopeing it would hold out a bit longer, as with everyone money was the issue in this case.

Can't agree more. This is why "lemons" start popping up.

          True that.

Hopefully you haven't done any further damage! Good luck and let us know how you go.

Try German Auto Parts, they do a kit with the thermo housing, coupler thing and the crackpipe with all the o-rings etc for a very reasonable price. I replaced all these on mine and it wasn't a huge expense. Around $400 all up including new coolant and labour etc. from memory.

              Hey Guys

Car is now back on the road . The thermo housing was cracked so they replaced that and all the bits and pieces to go with it, scanned the car for faults and done a full service on it aswell. It was a little $$$, but I have learnt my lesson about not fixing things straight away.
