Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Alarm issues

    Hi guys,

I bought a 1995 golf GL a few weeks back, and I just disconnected and reconnected the battery and the alarm went off. (its like 10 times louder when head is in the engine bay.) The battery is hooked up now and the alarm is off, but if I unlock the drivers side or passenger side and open the door the alarm goes off.

So how do arm/disarm the alarm properly so it doesn't keep going off on me?

    thanks

I don't know that any of the Golfs came with a "factory" alarm so I don't know that there is a standard answer. Best to head to your local auto elec (or if you don't want the alarm and it's not hooked up to anything else you can always yank the screamer out).

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Thanks, This is news to me, I thought the golfs came with an alarm. Well I actually just managed to figure it out. I just had to use the remote to unlock the car and it has stopped the problem It didn't occur to me that the remote would disarm the alarm when the key fob wont.

      Thanks for the answer anyway.

yeah I know I know.. It was a panic post, neighbors were starting to get annoyed and I didn't want to set the alarm off a further 10 times until I figured it out. The remote is dodgey as so its just been sitting in storage since I got the car, and I've just been using the key..
