So I got a coolant leak coming from the end of one of my heater core hoses, that goes up and into the block on the back of the engine, far right. It's leaking onto the transmission. I will get up a pic asap, but this is probably the secondary water pump failing right?

It sounds like that, yeah. I think a few mk3ers have broken aux water pumps but it doesn't really matter because the coolant keeps flowing heh.
That said, you don't wanna have it leaking everywhere! I'll let someone else post up whether or not you should just bypass it/cut it out or replace it.Mrk Detailing, premium automotive detailing. Paint correction/protection specialist. PM me

Bypass it if you are on a budget, but let the engine idle and cool down for a minute or so after hard driving before turning the car off.sigpic Camden GTI Performance. VW / AUDI Specialists

The thing is I wanna flush my coolant soon but theres no point if it's all just gonna piss back out again through the leak. I can't afford a new pump right now tho.Am I looking at a couple of hundred bucks for a new pump or can anyone sell me one cheaper?

My aux water pump failed, jammed up, caused overheating and then my heater core blew.
If it's working, you should be able to hear it wirring away when you have the ignition switched to on, but the motor not running.
It's an easy job to replace it (or bypass it if you don't have a new one) so I would say do it now.

Here are the two pipes that run into the heater core. If it's the pipe on the left, it's nothing to do with the afterrun pump.
If it's the one on the right, well you should actually see the leak when it joins the pump. I don't know that mine has ever worked, but it was bypassed a while back and I haven't had any ill effects. I keep thinking one day I will get round to replacing it... just hasn't happned yet
If your interested, here is the thread from when I bypassed it:

Yeah that looks about right, the coolant leak I've got is where that heater core hose with the silver insulation joins the pump. I'll get a close up pic if I can, to confirm it though. It's been leaking like that for as long as I can remember, I guess there must be a hairline crack or something idk. Just not enough for it to fail completely.
