  • vr6 coil pack... worth gluing?

hey all just wondered if anyone had had any success fixing a coil pack for their vr6? i have read in a couple of different places that you can glue them or use epoxy to seal them up but it seems to get mixed results. the reason i ask is i only purchased one 4 or 5 months ago online. i didnt look into it enough at the time due to needing the part immediately and so now im left with it causing major running issues.
so yeah, seeing as it is pretty new, is it worth trying to seal it up first or just swallowing my pride(and wallet ) and buying another one, this time with a bit more careful selection

any advice would be much appreciated
    cheers dave

From what I have read glueing is a temporary fix at best. It's one of those things thats worth replacing with a new part.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

A mate of mine fixed one up. Left it in the airing cupboard to dry out for a couple of day and then filled in the cracks with araldite. It worked for a while but he ended up with a new one not long after.

Got him out of the mire at the time.

Mine is covered in what appears to be baked on blu-tac. Has worked fine for the 2 or so years I've had the car!

You could still be lucky mate. My central locking motor pooped itself after the panelbeater let water into it so i sprayed the circuit board with wd40 and cleaned/dried (compressed air) it very thoroughly and it's doing okay thus far. I silastik'd the opening of it as well so it should be sealed.

I'd give it a go..but I'd be talking to the place you bought it first. Even if it is an eBay jobbie, they should last 10 years if you don't neglect it!

Its a waste of time, only if you are incredibly fortunate to have a single crack appear and epoxy that might you get away with it. If your coilpack is cracked it is no doubt cracked in at least 6-8 places by now, you will just have to get a new one. Ebay.uk has coilpacks for under 200 posted new, its worth a look there if you are on a budget.
