  • oh geez (fuel leak content)

After filling up at the servo today I had the misfortune to find that my car (VR6) was leaking a ****load of fuel from what seemed like the tank. I hadn't even turned the car on it just seemed to leak out somehow. It looked like a good litre or so came out. It eventually stopped so I figured there must be a problem somewhere between the fuel filler neck and the fuel tank. I unscrewed the fuel pump cover thing and everything in there is dry. My mechanic said something about the overflow hoses or something like that might have given up. It's definitely coming from the top of the tank somewhere, if anyone has any ideas what might have screwed up in there please let me know. It seems like the fuel tank will have to be dropped and I just hope its not some integral part of the fuel tank itself so I won't need a whole new fuel tank. Any help? Thanks in advance.

Do u smell fuel inside the cabin? Could be that u just overfilled it and it came out the overflow hole which is at the top of the filler neck.

I'm 99% sure thats not the case. No fuel came back out the fuel filler neck, the whole area around there inside the fuel filler door is clean. It was definitely coming from somewhere up the top of the fuel tank. I didn't fill the car any fuller than I do usually...

Is it your "usual" servo? Different pumps, different angles of the ground etc can make little difference than do things like this...

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

The fuel door area should always be dry because the runoff hole is placed in the neck itself near filler hole so overfill will run out there and not the filling hole itself. It then runs on the outside of the filler neck, onto the tank itself then onto the ground. If u dont smell fuel inside then u know that the fuel pump cap is on securely.
