  • crap blowing out of aircon vents

Hey guys we have a '97 GL with brown foam blowing out of the aircon vents. It's like they went into a unions meeting and said "let's get outta here", all just decided to quit on the same day.

Only thing I can do is vacuum it, but last week they had a second ambush.

Now we're afraid to use the aircon, fearing teh stuff's poisonous or something. How do you get rid of this crap!

Hahahaha oh dear, fortunately for you thats just the sealing sponge between the vents and other dash fixtures, it used to be yellow but has turned a deathly brown due to age, nothing to worry about. May I suggest to max out the air con and have all the doors open whilst running the car outside to get all of it, or better yet take out some the vents (piss easy) and clean them out yourself!

It all comes out eventually... till some more comes out...

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Main culprit for this is oil from the Evaporator. This along with condensation through time breakes down the foam. Most A4s i do Evaps on now i strip it all off and stick new 3M foam to the blend door. There is a disadvantage along with the crap flying out of the vents. Remember it is a blend door, so if you have foam breaking down you will also have heat blend. Drops the cooling efficiency in the cabin. Gives the same impression as a stuck heater valve.

thanks guys. I have found the best solution, but it's a bit optimestic. We bought some new Pirellis for the car over the weekend so the aircon problem may go away if it becomes a Pirelli GTI

Another problem, headlining is hanging down, how have you tackled that one?
