Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Want to make a Cl go faster...

Spent yesterday and today with Dad cleaning the inlet manifold and throttle body... Heaps more wheel spin Due to the breather off the rocker cover going into the inlet piping its full of oil and grit. Now i have a decent gearbox and more power

Iv spent my life savings of my Mk3...

Remember no powerful cars nfor me due to P plate restriction

Its probably a good idea having a pretty basic engine: Cheap to fix, low running cost and hopefully wont get me in too much trouble on the roads

I think you'll just have to learn to settle and be happy with the lack of power! I think I finally have, and I really don't mind the 8V anymore.

Maybe replace air filter with a K&N piece, and cut up your airbox? I've done that to mine (the only engine "performance upgrade") and it gives the illusion I'm going faster than I really am cos of the air induction sound lol.

              Present: Mk3 Golf variant.

Got my heart set on either a 1.9 TDI out of a Mk4 or a 1.8T but thats a while off... Long term

what can and can't you do, in regards to the new P plate laws?

Maybe stick to basic stuff, ie breathing. intake and exhaust. That engine will never be fsat/quick. unless it's in a mk 1

No turbo, no S/C, no V8, some "high performance 6cylinders" are also a no no.

Although i questiono this as I have seen green P-platers (the law has been in force for 3 years now, coming up on 4 (July)) with WRX STI, SS utes etc...so I really don't get it.

That, something which should be clear cut is not "clear cut", so I would find it hard to describe "Engine performance modifications" to you.

I think the safest, most responsible way to do it would be to check with engineers/your local (As it varies with state) authorities prior to doing anything.

On a p-plate wage though, most ould find it difficult to go past exhaust, intake and possibly stretch to a chip (As far as us watercoolers i suspect), as we like balance in our cars right...

There just seems to be lots of "grey areas"..

I heard that but saw one in Adelaide over the weekend, a 110hp one. Could ave been an import obviously.

As VicRoads states no induction or exhuast modifications that will gane performance from the vechile...

But what copper knows a hotted up Mk3 as long as I dont attract attention...

Regards to a TDI it would be a front clip from either NZ or UK

Whats the diferance between the 1.9L TDI in the Polo and the MK4 Golf?? If there isn't much differance, maybe you cold consider that.
