Anyone think that after all the years, their airbag steering wheel might not work?

...ive often pondered.

i hate the stock VR6 steering wheel. i think its ugly, too big and to thinnly spoked.

wud love to whack a nice steering wheel on.

is there a way to see if all the explodey stuff inside or at least the electrics are still ok? plus i think the technology of air bags wheels some 10-15 years ago would be very different to now, ie alot more BANG alot more broken face stuff.

unfortunately there arent many aftermarket options for steering wheels with airbags for mk3. they just look plain fugly and the stock wheel is much better. mk3.5 cabrio wheel will fit and looks like a mk4 so thatd be best bet but they are hard to come by down here.

meh, I like my re trimmed wheel. It's an interesting question to see it anyone has tested a 10+ year old airbag...

(although, if you knew you had a 50/50 chance of it working, would you bother replacing it it hope for the 50% ??

We put power to a couple of curtain airbags on a golf 5 wreck a couple of weeks ago.

Pretty amusing, they come out very fast.

I reckon your Golf 3 one will work just fine and its illegal to remove it.

Yeah I had mine removed and retrimmed, although in my case it looks like a previous owner had replaced the VR6 wheel with a non leather version at some stage.

Anyway, removed, retrimmed and re inserted, info in my build thread:
