Nope, with or without the MAF the car is still missing it didn't make any difference at all.

Sounds to me as though you still have a dodgy lead somewhere.

Well it's not a definite way of concluding that it's the MAF. Maybe you could try swap a MAF with another VR6 owner?

It'd be worth a try definately, as for the leads no 6 was loose which I promptly put it back in its place. Its not running like a WRX anymore but this misfire at low RPM persists, and the leads are OEM and have been replaced by the unfortunate previous owner within the last 12 odd months.

I'll do some more research and see what I can come with anyway, oh and please keep the suggestions coming

Its funny how much a vr6 running on 5 cyls sounds like a wrx isnt it hehe.

id say its time to break out the vagcom and make sure all your sensors are working properly

My mate had this issue with his when he had it. Turned out to be the fuel pump in the tank...

Hmm well if it's just misfiring now I'd be trying a new set of leads - sometimes you can get dodgy ones that let go after a few days/months.

It must be a VW thing. When my MAF was stuffed in the 1.8t my girlfriend said, "what are you trying to do, make it sound like a WRX?!"

                        Hey Branko,

Just an update from my neck of the woods, I ended up taking it to another mechanic up here, all the new parts put in passed with flying colours, but bad news struck when they did a compression test. 3 outta 6 cylinders are low, one loosing ~40psi.. Leak test was done this morning, but nothing found there... Not looking forward to the next phone call thats for sure...!

Is it the rear 3 cylinders that are low? What was the cause, top end(valves) or bottom end bores??

The rear cylinders often get more worn than the front due to the angle the pistons run at. Especially if service intervals are not adhered to properly.

Lots of piston slap VRs in the UK with only average mileages on.

I believe that, that is the rear 3 cylinders.
