Hey Byron, mate we'll have to catch up, your one of those dudes that I keep meaning to get in cantact with but never do lol, anyway cheers for the props though it looks better in person I reckon and looking forward to the new works! I'll come down and peep'em once you get'em painted up

oh, and nah, I fixed up the massive 14mm toe in a while ago due to being rediculously unsafe on the highway in the wet! The arse was all over the road to the point where people were hanging back and not overtaking, scary fun . . . I enjoyed squeeling on carparks polished concrete floors though, really miss that

So no, the same really bad uneven camber wear but wearing at a normal rate now

i'm going to sleep on it, if I do it'll probably be homer ftw

Just found out though it's only 82bucks to have a slimline standard issued?! will look into it also . . .

                        Comment

                        • aight, 80bucks will have your current standard plates remade in either slim or standard sizes, so i've gone with slim front and standard rear. Sorry, but no homer for the moment, I came to the conclusion that the price of those plates could almost fund getting the diff and final drive installed into the vr's box!

So i'm just going to standardize the interior, re-adjust the front camber, amber corners and leave it be

Now to finish the other euro thang!

I received my replacement headlights from NZ yesterday (Big thanks to Joe (joevr) and John (vert1)) and immediately began installing my painted and projected inserts into them; Only to realize that the rear of the projector fouls on the housing

So now i'm going to have to push the projector further in forwards towards the glass to give me enough clearance to still utilise the cap and retain a sealed headlight.

Over the weekend i'll need to find another fitting to step up a size for the shroud so that I can cover up the bulb reflector because once I push it through it'll be exposed. And before you say anything, no I won't be able to use the end cap the way it is atm, i'll be modifying it by cutting a hole in the center and plastic welding a "cup" on the end.

Can the glass flutes be sanded down so that they don't disrupt the projector light output?

                          pics for googling...

when the replacement lights arrived I threw them on to see if they were all good and yes they'd been joey modded by the previous owner.

                          The difference

                          and the ****ty part

Hopefully some positive updates over the weekend...

Also engine parts are being boxed and tagged for delivery to 101 Motorsport, so the mechanicals are getting love too at last!

                          • Hey Alex, in regards to sanding down the fluted part of the lens, yes it can be done, just a lot of work as with all things to do with sanding.

This one guy sanded down just enough for the projector beam -

                            Before:

                            After:

                            His DIY:
                            1. Buy a pair of plastic lenses
                            2. Mark the outside of the lens with a circle using a Sharpie where the projector is.
                            3. Use 60 or 80 grit sandpaper in a circular pattern on the inside where you marked, careful not to wander into the other fluted areas
                            4. Progress to 220 grit until all deep scratches are gone
                            5. Progress to 400 grit with water grit until you see a uniform haze without scratches
                            6. Progress to 1000 grit with water until it looks clear with water
                            7. Progress to 1500 or 2000 grit and get as smooth as possible. When dry, they should look about like Scotch tape.
                            8. Use Megiar's PlastX to polish until perfectly clear.
For what it's worth, there has been others that retrofitted projectors without sanding down the fluted bits of the lens. Projector beam isn't as sharp but light output is still tons better than stock. I don't know about the beam refracting onto the other side of the road, but if pointed correctly it should be minimal.

A solution would be to source a set of FK Vento/Jetta headlights and used their lenses instead, as they are clear to begin with, no flutes.

Also with the projector protruding behind the housing, I think your projector is sitting quite far in at the moment. Most try and locate them as close to the lens as possible to try and avoid as much projector beam distortion as possible (especially with a fluted lens). Though this does mean modifying the backing of the reflector of the headlights so the projector can be bolted on...

Either way, you could possibly try and extend the end cap of the housing? -

Loving the progress man, I've gotta come round and check it out when I get my s**** together (and wrangle a car that actually freakin works.....old euros hey).

For something you talk about like a track-hack, it's coming together like a freakin show car (and not the wanky playstation 3 and 22" chrome kind either... the good kind).

Keep up the insanity, you've impressed me with your madness from page one.
It's all good, it worked out aight though two mounting tabs were broken during transit were supposedly all good when they left NZ so bad luck for me, i'll deal with it.

the track hack project has morphed into the "something on the side i'm having fun with" project and is taking ages! lol, I just don't have enough time or monies to make it happen overnight however i'm in no rush, it's just everyone around me pushing for it to be completed including my mum who wants the garage back! haha

There's a little bit of projector progress though no pics because i'm still sifting through ideas; So I thought i'd share my new hectiva's number plate and it's mounting and the quick pinstripe I added to tie the rims to the car

Whoever spots something odd and uneven about the Hecti goes in the draw to win a pair of old butt sludged undies I found in the valley last weekend . . .

Oh! and that stupid little blue F15 sticker on the ds fender has been cleared over! I can't get the damb thing off :pissedoff:

But please put your number plate in the normal spot, its not like there is a FMIC or oil cooler

BTW I do like the front lip and sill covers....
