Had a brand new one installed about 2 months ago. Gonna try the temp sender and see if it's maybe sending dody readings to the guage.

Sounds a little like what happened when mine went bad.
auxillary coolant pump... yeah... should really replace that one day, was removed a while back so it doesn't impede any flow that may otherwise happen, but yeah it doesn't exist any more.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

That little unit does make a difference chaps, the Vr system is rather large for the coolant pump thats why they fit the aux, and this too is on when you shut down to stop boil in the head , i would have it fitted again mate. The temps stated here seem the norm though. They do run hot and funny enough i only had this conversation with a poor fellow today who has cooked theirs, the stat collapsed and blocked the flow and she cooked and it was ran,ran and ran now the water comes out the header tank like Mount ETNA or is it ETKA Anyway the conversation was about the Aussie VRs , guys we had 1 out of 3 over in Scotland with heads off at some time and most had divets between 3 and 4. I reckon its the water. Over here ive had 1 head off and the water didnt seem to affect the heads the same. Im sticking with that and it has amazed me as all we used to do was heads on AAA and ABV over there.

I'm probably being a little paranoid but have blown a head gasket before (in another car) and I'm very wary these days of overheating.

You know there is a good chance that all the pumps are actually dead in our VR6's. Seems to be a common part to break about this time.

One day I might order a new one, but GAP want US$117.02 which is AU$183.60 + shipping in todays money... anyone happen to know what one of these run locally?

Plan B might be to get a pump out of something else and modify the plug to fit... Interesting...

I was lucky in that I got mine when the AUD was about 88 to the USD. Probably wouldn't have done it otherwise. My old one had a leak so I had to do something, plus i'm a fussy barstood who likes new parts

Thats why my one was pulled out, didn't go back in since it's of questionable necesity if you let the car cool down to "normal" temps before turning it off.

                Still, I'll consider one.
