Actually there is at least 4 temp sensors on a VR6 that I know of, that being one of them... From memory, that ones drive the temp guage, nothing else.

          Whats wrong with yours?

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

The one I posted according to elsawin should be G62 which is the reference point for the ECU I believe.

Best way to test is to whip out the trusty ol vagcom and have a look at the live data. If you harass me on msn I should be able to send u some more info

One other thing to note is that I have no idea what model year your car is decsla. So there may be some variance from year to year. I know the later model cars like hawks do have some subtle differences. I used the 05 model year in the above example.

Umm im no mechanic but probably hard starting? Running rich perhaps?

heres an interesting thing I just learnt from the workshop manual.

"The engine control unit will use the intake air temperature as a replacement value for an engine start (start temperature replacement value) as soon as there is a fault stored in the fault memory, which affects the coolant temperature sender (G62). The temperature then rises according to a model stored in the control unit. When the engine has reached normal working temperature a fixed replacement value will be displayed after a certain period. This fixed value is also dependent upon the intake air temperature."
