    Finally got round to looking at the cruise control. It was making all the right relay noises but it just didn't work. So I pulled the pump out and tested it, all good.

    Did a vacuum test on the line (read sucked on it) and found the line was cracked... *just* before it went into front leg where I couldn't get at it.

    Trimming the pipe ment the original didn't quite reach and would have been pretty tight even if I didn't have to trim it, a quick trip down to AutoOne Campbelltown's new premises (it's huuuuge!) saw some larger diameter pipe than I really wanted, AutoPro on the other hand ended up having a slightly smaller than stock pipe which was perfect!

    Putting it back in was fractionally harder than taking it out. The car gods thought my mood was too good after finding a working pipe and a busted pipe where I could get at it so decided to bite my thumb

    Anyway, put it all back together an BOOYA! My cruise control is working a treat. Perfect for those long interstate journeys


    Bathurst is also the usual time for the 6 monthly oil change but with things going on round the house I didn't get to it until today. Nice fresh Castrol GTX2 replacing the old oil and she's apples mate.

    Last oil change I replaced the old sump plug with one of the magnetic ones to see if there was much metal floating around (not that I thought there would be), also because the old one was starting to get ground away ... the new one is starting that too:


    The tip of the plug shows what it picked up:



    If it was metal and not just crud it was powder like, nothing that seemed metal when I rubbed it.

    And cleaned up for comparrison:



    And for those who don't bother to change the sump plug washer, here is a new next to the old one which has had a single use:




    They really do crush up a bit, well worth replacing every time.

    And thats it, fresh oil and working cruise! What else could a man want from his Saturday

    If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

    I just recently got one of those sump plugs too. Don't remember if it came with extra washers but I'll be doing my oil (amongst a whole lot of other things) over the week anyway.

      NOt all vr6s has cuise control right... I would love to have one.

        They came out with cruise standard in '94 i think.. Right?

          Poor thumb

          Was it difficult taking the oil filter housing off, I keep reading online that you need a torque wrench to remove the filter housing, but do you honestly need one?

            Maybe it was saying you need a torque wrench to fit it back on? Torque wrenches are only meant to be used for tightening...

              Yeah I'm pretty sure your right, I think what I meant to ask was if you needed a torque wrench to tighten the housing up once your were finished.

                You don't need a torque wrench, but you do need a big arse socket to take the housing off... SOOOOO easy when you have it. Well worth the $20 odd I payed for it at AutoOne

                The thumb, well yeah cruise pump plus tight places = sore finger

                If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

                    Oh good, thats what I wanted to hear. and it looks like I have a 36mm socket right here w00t
