  • Just been polishing...;)

well guys, while the VR is off the road (only for another week, yay), I thought id might polish my inlet manifold.

So here is the progress. all i need to do now is buff it and do a little more detail.

I went for the polished top look with black detail. Hope you guys like it

    cheers

thanks guys. i didnt polish all the way down cos, lets face it, with the fuel rail there and the manifold curving inwards, noone is gonna see it and less work for me lol.

i didnt have access to an electric sander so it was all done with wet & dry sand paper and a block of corck lol

Wow! Nice result, and all by hand... One of the best mods for the engine bay visually IMO. (Other than polishing a Schrick manifold )

About how long did it take? I'm looking to do mine some time in the future.

                cheers Mark

lol, yea i wish i was polishing a shrick manifold, STEVE...grrr... but this will do for the time being lol.

Well i had it for a week so a few hours here and there. if you get an electric sander that will reduce the time heaps. the original texture surface is a nightmare to sand lol.

just started with 240 grit paper and worked my way down to 1500/2000 grit. finished it off with a bit of mothers mag polish.

I did the above on my VR6 manifold too. But i wasnt happy with the finish between the runners. It was too hard to get a clean line of polished to painted section so I just ended up painting my entire manifold again over it.

But yes does look much nicer than stock!

Tim, i got the inspiration to do mine from you buddy

There was no way I was gonna be able to polish the complete runners in the time I had so I went for this option. kinda glad i did too.

Fantastic finish, looks brilliant!! Finishing off with 1500/2000 really pays off.

How did you do the black detailing? Mask/spray or brush?

                        hey ray, cheers buddy.

yea i sprayed the grooves first. then sanded it. the black look grey after i finished with the sanding so i went over the lot with paintbrushes lol. bit of work but it was a beautiful day outside so i thought, eh...why not lol.

the line could be straighter between the paint and polish but ill play around with that another day. not long now till my head comes back from the reco shop woohoo....fresh new head...mmm..

if i had the money I would of gotten it ported but oh well...
