  • vacuum hose?

    g'day -
in my mk3, there's a white vacuum hose (stiff plastic tube) terminating in a braided rubber hose... that goes nowhere

it runs across the top of the firewall, from passenger side to driver's side, going above the coil

just on the driver's side of the coil, it's hanging loose... & i can't see from where...

    any clues?

Interesting. I noticed i had the same thing on my MK3 96 Golf GL. Had no idea what it's for, or whether it needs fixing.

Hope someone knows what this is for.

are you getting any vacuum leak? it should probably attatch to a join with a green vacuum hose going into the injection module.

      i think...

        no leak apparent...

nor does the detached hose itself appear to have a vacuum upon it...

There is a vacuum line that runs to a valve behind the expansion tank and from there into the heater core which then leads to the flap for the recycled air. This also runs down past the battery to an air tank behind the front quarter that holds pressure.

There is also something in or around here that does the cruise control...

Should be either a redundant cruise part or the recycle flap (which would be my guess)

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

I have a vacuum leak with my central locking actually. I'll take a look and see if there's a green vacuum hose the to connect it to.

            Thanks.

when you say "into the heater core", does that mean the vacuum hose runs through the firewall with/near the water hoses for the heater core?

Between them there is a little plastic barb for the air line.

As for central locking, that run from a seperate pump behind the rear quarter panel of the drivers side IIRC. Definately not at the front at all.

On the GL that vacuum line plugs into the one way valve on the black plastic line from the brake booster.
Yes Jondarren, one of those lines also controld C/L so would be worth checking.

yes, you're right... there is a very very little stub between the heater hoses - maybe only 5mm

                    ...no wonder it came off!

                    thanks

                      *Update*

Had a look this weekend and found the green nozzle that the hose should be attached to. Put it back on but not sure what it's for. Still no resolution with the central locking so need to find that fault location.

                      Cheers

Ah nice one Loon. I'll give that a look to see if it stops the motor whirring once i lock/unlock the car.

                      Cheers man.
