    Good Luck.
I know my friend but Jmac is a best mechanic in Brisbane. I beleive his job 100%. I was visited about 20 mechanics in Brisbane and nobody know what is wrong with my engine. Jmac just open the bonnet and for 10 sec said what is wrong. Strongly recommended.

I open my engine cover and plastic chain tensioner is broken and chain is moving about 10-15mm up/down and make noise. Time for big change. Picture comming soon.

Interesting thread. I've seen pics of a timing chain change on vwvortex, fascinating.

              yea post those pics buddy

I had a bad sound from my about a week ago. Starting it cold it sounded like a diesel aswell. Was just after a oil change too (only use the best lol).

Turned out to be one of the hydrolic tappets staying opened. Noise stop when the oil temp got hotter. scared the hell outta me tho, cos i thought it was the chain.

hope it goes well for you buddy

Chains are very scary. Three weeks...!

I'd really like to see pics of your engine getting a new timing chain VW VR6! It'll give me a good guide

I figure when it's time to do the chains you may as well do the cams too since they aren't worth that much to buy, but installation...

... and while your there... blower.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Guys this engine may be getting transplanted but even if so i will have the other one apart anyway and take some digitals for yas explaining the procedure and timing no worries, one way or another its coming apart.
                      Cheers

Wow,, I had a bit of a Google on the subject, that's a pretty daunting task alright.

I found a very detailed step by step guide...in German! The pictures are fantastic though!

Hahaha It's the same article! I just found the German translation!

I'll read the Vortex one, it'll probably make more sense to me.
