The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Mk2 Front bottom spoiler issue

    Hey Guys,
    I have an odd one.

When I purchased my MK I noticed that it was missing the front spoiler, so I tracked one down and had it attached.

The only problem is, is that it doesn't seem to sit right. See the pics below:

I noticed that there is a plastic pin on the spoiler and a matching hole on the flare but I can't think of a way to getting them any where near each other... If the pin with in the hole I reckon it would hold itself in place quite well.
I might have to just try to attach the sides some how and not worry about the gap...

Or do I need to adjust my bumper bar?

    Thanks in advance.

It's an aftermarket spoiler I suppose, don't expect a perfect fit.

Is it split in the middle?

Yes it did come in two sections. The middle part seems fine as both clip in place.

Similar experience here with a mk2 GTI aftermarket piece.
I tried heat to loosen it up and then quickly clipped it in (once I'd trimmed off all the excess plastic from the mould) and taped it on the car temporarily hoping that would set it in place...
Once the tape came off it popped straight out the sides out so I ended up cleaning up my OEM one.
From memory mine was a bit short too.

Try to find someone wrecking a car as cleaning up an OEM one will give you a far better result.

It doesn't look like you have it clipped in all the way at the edge , you need to make sure it's pushed all the way home at the front and the join in the middle isn't very tight , so if u have a tight gap in the middle move both sides out a little and work your way clipping it in to the flare , chances are it will fit then

Thanks for the advice. I previously secured the middle section with some strong double sided tape, I'll have try to gently pull it off and try your tip.

Finally an update. Had some spare time with the long weekend

I was trying to bend the lower spoiler as it looked like that might have been the problem, but I ended up snapping it in the process!!

So I thought I would try to do a cheap fix and stitch the spoiler with some red cable ties and this was the end result.

I'm pretty happy with it and gives it a bit more of a personal touch lol

Lol i didn't think anyone would notice!

I might fix it up next time I'm under there, or I could pretend that its to match the positive and negative on the battery terminals lol

The real bummer is that the first nasty driveway you back out of and it pops out the front..
