Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Engine swap for MKII

Hi! I found an engine for my project car but I'm not sure what kind of engine it is. The guy selling it told me it's from an MKIV but I don't think its a 1.8T

Can anyone help me name of identify the engine in pic.. Thanks!

From a Mk4 , could be a 2.0, 1.6 or 1.8T engine. Isn't it a stamp of engine number somewhere which indicate its engine code ?

Not 1.8T probably 2 litre. Not massively familiar with non-GTIs.

Thought so too especially when I saw that it's a SOHC...

Also, is it a direct bolt on for the swing arms of golf mk4 to my mk2 including the rear parts? Since I notice that the engine is not a 1.8t I'm thinking of just getting the under parts. I'll post pic of my golf when I got it and what I have already done to it

First thing I changed was the bumpers from US to Euro and the Bbs rims then the grills from quad lights to debadged
