Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Mk2 vr6

As most know I have MK2 and I also have a MK3 VR6. Been trying to sell the VR6 as I have run out of time, space etc etc. For the peanuts I was asking and the painfull tyre kicking I had a good think and to be fair ill be better off selling stuff of the car, as 90% of it is all good id be better off putting an engine I love and know inside out into a car I love, so without having to say much more itll be easy to work out. So Breaking it over the break, selling it off and be VR6 ing the MK2. Don't come on here too much so if I get time or whatever ill update with pics.
Pretty much all I have to say at this stage

If you didn't have the VR6 motor handy would you have gone down the 20v turbo route?

Was all ready to do just that, I have all the 20vt set up mate, but selling the VR was painful man, tyre kickers etc for peanuts, so might as well have an engine I love in a car I love, made sense. Selling all the other parts off. Get next to no response on here but its not MK5 or 6 So expect no less. Not to worry , I will document the upgrade as I go along .

Putting a VR is a bad idea, I would know.

Haha, just kidding. It's a riot.
It's actually a bit fiddly using a mk 3 VR as a donor, lots more bits will need customising, as opposed to a rado VR or passat, which would be much better donors. You going to go wide track? Hope you like camber! lol

I'm sure you'll be able to do it, but yeah. Be prepared for a few fiddly bits.

I agree that mk 3 VR's are 'worth' peanuts these days. Bit of a shame, but it is what it is, I guess

Jarred - what's fiddly about the mk3 VR as opposed to other VRs?
Or is that not what you were implying?

Not going widetrack mate , keeping 4x100. Have wheels organised in the UK and love em . Widetrack looks silly, and is wider at the frongt bugger that. Well aware of Golf vs Rado or Passat, but all good. Tinto , the Passat or Rado pedal box is the go over the MK3, and the front crossmember is too but the MK2 on does do with modification anyway.
Have lots of Rado stuff already along with the complete Golf. Looking forward to that riot mate

Would love to see this thing come together mate! Are you doing anything to the vr before you put it in? A vr with extractors and ITBs is a beautiful thing. Hope your back is on the mend too mate
