I have cheap coilovers and they are mega stiff with the 195/50/15's that I'm running. Every bump in the road shakes the car. With 185/60/14 they are fantastic.

I'm running 16s. So I guess it will be a harder ride then.

Depends mainly on the engine (to the OP). I am running mk3 VR cup kit springs in the front of the MK1 cabby, because the 1.9TD is a heavy lump. I am also running bilstein yellows in the front (the proper bilsteins) which gives it just enough damping.
You really want to match the spring/shock combo to the axle load.
