I have been driving my mk2 for a while now, i've noticed that the fuel consumption is terrible.. I thought possibly a vacuum leak, inspected today didn't manage to locate any. Any other suggestions? what is everyone else getting on a full tank?

I'm getting 720ks on a tank but most of my driving is on country roads and I sit on 100 - 110.
Before the 2L conversion I was getting around 850ks per tank.
City driving really brings these numbers down and I've heard of people getting 400 but they drive hard.
Cheers

Anytime you smell petrol something is wrong. Start by fixing that leak, then see what the consumption is.1978 MK1 2.0 16v http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/foru...-46488-70.html

Run the engine and check around the top of the engine for fuel leaks- back of the engine on top of the manifold is a fuel connection which could be leaking- happened on my mk2 a few years back.
The give away was a strong smell of fuel through the air-conditioning.
Does the car run smooth otherwise?sigpic07 GTI

Mine leaked around the fuel pump under the back of the car. It was a pain to fix but had to be done.1978 MK1 2.0 16v http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/foru...-46488-70.html

So the faster you go the more fuel you're pumping onto the road.........1978 MK1 2.0 16v http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/foru...-46488-70.html
