Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • What models do you get over here?

Did you get the same model golf mk2 as Europe..

Would be cool to see or even own one for the time am here!?

They were only 'officially' imported between 90 - 92, of which they were 4 door, pov spec, detuned, 1.8 8v, GTI's.
There are, however a few personal imports from the UK and Africa.

Expect high mileage and price, because they are 'sooo rare'.... lol
MK2 - *Insert list of dealer purchased extra's/standard features here*
80 series - The MK2's BIG, Sooty, polar opposite...

Walshy knows all this stuff well haha

I think there's maybe 1 or 2 (g60 powered Golfs) imports (Ill probably be corrected) and apparently a country Golf somwhere.
There are some 2 doors and the occasional valver, but very few.

I think I saw one of the G60 powered imports for sale not too long ago... was asking 10g+ IIRC.

          there are about 35ish known 2dr's, a dozen 16V's, a few G60's, i think 2 country's but no rallye's!!!
all of these are private imports.

so they are pretty scarce in Aus

I know there is one Rally, but it has been stored as treasure and not registered.

A Rallye would be no good in most states unless you convert it to RHD.

Wow, thats cool a rallye being over here shame it cant be used to show of though...
Does the car ever get out at shows?

How come LHD need to be changed to RHD?
As i have heard and seen a lot of M3 E30's been changed...
But if i bought one, i'd really want to keep in as it should E30 M3 arent the same other wise..

Australian Design Rules and State law dictate RHD for nearly everywhere unless the car is over a certain age. It's not like the UK where you just get an MOT and swap the headlights.
