  • Power steering on KR 16v

Hey all. Just wondering if all the power steering parts off a mk3 golf will work with my Mk2 16v, or will I need other gear to get it working. Thanks

Sorry I can't give you a definitive answer but I fitted 8v mk2 Gti PS to my KR and that all fitted except I needed to find the right mount to mount the pump. I think mk3 may be a serpentine belt driven pump and therefore a much more complex change. And the reservoir is most likely different shape and location.

the mk 3 reservoir is in a different spot (only by a little bit), but can be mounted if you're a little bit handy . (I have mk 3 PS in my mk 2)

You might be able to use the entire bracket off the mk 3, as well as the alternator (and AC if you have it). But I couldn't give you a definitive answer.

As mentioned mount is differant ,not sure about pumps from experience, have noticed a higher failure rate compared to the mk2 pump, have seen/heard many a noisey one @ fairly low kms,the mk2 pump is a tuff little bugger.
You could make one fit ? have seen it done in reality though.
