sounds like you both need to change your gearbox oil.

Although being as old as they are (and hot hatches to boot) the 2nd gear synchros will be inclinded to be a little worn by this stage!

Is it only me or does everyone have to buy new tools as soon as they start working on their mk2? Lol

I made a tool to remove the 17mm allen headed gearbox plug, but apart from that, not really

Mk 2 is about as simple as the mk 1, and mk 3. They only exception is the mk 3 has more plastic clip parts!
