I think the mk1 is 55AOriginally posted by ryana89 View PostAny MK2 fitted with (factory) AC will have the 90A alternator.
As long as its the V belt style alternator, it'll fit fine.
How many amp is the alternator in the MK1?

^Dave, what type of bike is that parked behind your car?
Looks awfully familiar.
Also, if you havn't tried already, loosen the tension on the alternator drive belt a bit.
Might squeak when cold, but could get a 'bit' more life out of it.Last edited by ryana89; 26-11-2012, 01:00 PM.MK2 - *Insert list of dealer purchased extra's/standard features here*

Rang up Matt at Camden GTI Monday last week.
He had a 90A alternator, so he sent it down and I got that on Tuesday last week.
Then it wouldn't fit, so I made up some spacers and plates and got it fitted on wednesday last week.
Tightened her up and away she goes. So far so good and no bearing noises!!
Top service Matt!!
didn't have time to clean it up, but you get the idea

He's a happy 18 year old, he made good for his year 12 and dad said he'd pay for BBS RS replicas and boots. Anyone know if we'll run into any hassles? We removed the existing Avante wheels and measured up the wheel offsets and offset/distance to the brake caliper was around 20mm from the hub.
Ive got bits and pieces of the wheel arches and side trims, but nothing complete and finding it hard to get the silcion inserts. And help would be appreciated.
Also wishing to move the Genuine Steelies and have a power steering rack I no longer need thats good to go.
Will post them in classified as soon as I get up enough posts.
Thanks in advance.

so the problem i thought was fixed, is now back!!
the issue is that the car takes about 3-4 cranks of the ignition to get the engine to start firing properly...very annoying
i've narrowed it down to be ONLY when the air is hot (i.e. today was 39 degrees, cloudy and a hot northerly wind).
but, i've had it sit out in the sun on a 35 degree sunny day (cooler winds) with no issues.
note:
injectors have been replaced (thought they were leaking due to the heat, it did make it a little better)
and a few of the little temp gauges have been changed too, and is now reading properly.
anyone have any clues??
is this just one of K-jets weird tricks?

This is a vapour lock issue. You will be having the fuel drain back through the pump leaving space in the injector lines for the fuel to vaporise and then it won't get fuel to fire until it has cranked. This is because commonly the one way valve fails. It won't happen so much in cold temps or when car is stopped and started from cold, only hot starts.
Check this page and the cheapest place to start is the check valve.

Can you hear the fuel pump/s priming when you turn the ignition on?
Think I read of a similar thing happening to a (kjet) MK1, give me 5, Ill find the thread.
EDIT: Yes, it was the one Mick posted below.
The exact same page and post I was about to link too!

Thanks a lot Mik!!
I was wondering if I should have changed it when I did the fuel pump and filter, I thought it looked ok, so I didn't bother getting another one.
And Ryan, pump primes, does all the usual things and runs perfectly.. it just hasnt got the hot starting bit worked out yetLast edited by Stiggy_21; 17-01-2013, 09:48 PM.
