Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Cluster Q.

Hey guys, i have a mk2 dash in my mk1. I've always been curious what this guage does, or indicate. I've never known and have always wondered what it was for. I thought it could have been for fog or something, but wasnt sure. Anyone able to give me a description on it? Cheers

George, you've got a rare cluster there! (with the fuel/temp being vertical)

That arrow indicates/flashes when to change 'up' gear (if it's all wired up right)

Wow !! Thats awesome, thanks man. I just did a google images search and i see what you mean about the vertical fuel and temp. I wonder where i can find a diagram to wire up the up gear. Im assuming i need to wire it to my tacho/rev somehow

But once again thanks Ryan !!

Wiring up can be the fun part.

        Electrical Systems

Kinda hard to explain but that link should do it.
Depending on the era, MK2 clusters use inputs from various sensor/switch's as-well/or the ECU (ie MPG, AVG etc)

If you don't have it already, you will require the proper 28pin plug/s set-up that connects to the cluster.

Please correct me if I have said anything wrong/misleading*

Yeah 7k/rpm and 200kmh is perfect for a tuned mk2

            Cluster

Ive got a very similar cluster in my early mk2 and that gauge is the mpg indicator. Operates by vacuum I think.

            Also mine is in mph
