Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Spike's rides

Hey all, I thought I'd post up a few pics of my rides. Currently I have 3 vw's in total, 2 that actually work and another which is in need of a motor (yet to build it).
    The 66......

The 70's baja (with a motor)

    And the newly aquired GTI

The 66 is very pretty and the Baja looks like fun.
Is that a factory sunroof in the MK2?

Thanks all. Yep thats a factory sunroof, they aren't rare are they? Plans include a general clean up,as it hasn't been looked after all too well in the past. The front seats will need retrimmed, someone has had a crack at doing it themselves with shocking results. Then a smack with the lowering stick and a set of rims for good measure.

Black colour Mk2 is rare, with factory sunroof make it even rarer, good pick up.

Thanks for the replies. The whole watercooled scene is new to me but I've taken the gti out a few times already and its pretty awesome to drive so I think I'm hooked. I've read there is a sticker with the paint code in the boot somewhere? I'll have a look today. Rwc happens on Monday so the real work should start early next year!

In the boot, have a look on the rear panel underneath the tailgate locking pin. Don't know where Aussie gti stickers are, but that's where mine is

Didn't think that aussie mk 2's ever came with sunroofs. (we did only get 1 spec of car after all).

Does it have a glass roof? I looks like it does. I'm pretty sure it's aftermarket (maybe dealer fitted). post some pics the controls!

i've seen a few with i think a factory sunroof.
it should be a two way electric one.
                        (1) slides back into the roof, (2) tilts up.
they have a browny tint to the glass and a sliding fabric/metal panel in the interior.

have to say they are pretty cool better than my old windy one

hold on.... spike, did you buy that from dandenong???

Sounds just like the one Stiggy discribed.

Hope this helps, If it anything to go by, it doesn't leak?!
I bought the car in Werribee but the guy lives in Dandy.

Did I say it didn't leak? What I meant to say is that it leaks like a sieve.....Just been hit by a massive storm and the gti got stranded out doors. All of the head liner, the back seats and the newly made parcel shelf are dripping wet. The up side is under the dash seems to have fared ok.
