Oh yes.. the GAP package was like receiving xmas pressie! Heee..

So without the pre-heat pipe setup, do i need to blank off any of the vacuum lines on the airbox? How is yours set up? Any photos to share?

Havn't got any pic's, but basically I have no pipe's connected to the pre-heat set-up.
As you've seen, there's a 'trap door' at the back of the airbox where that heater ducting pipe would connect up too.

The trap door is actuated by engine vacuum, which is dependant on outside air temp, if you remove all hose's from the set-up, the trap door simply doesn't open.

EDIT: Here's a good page on how the system works in cold weather http://www.race.nangreaves.com/golf/FU01/ch7.2.2.html

Need some advice about nylon (hard plastic) fuel lines underneath the car. As 2 of the lines (fuel tank to accumulator & Fuel filter to engine) been cut off previously (at where the plastic hose joins the rubber hoses). What is the best way (leak free) to join rubber hoses to the nylon lines? Will brass compression fittings hold the pressure?

Finally got round to fit the digifant system over the least few weekends and first key-on resulted in fuel leaks!!! Accumulator housing was leaking badly from crack (i repaired it with putty before), brass compression fitting on the low pressure fuel line (from in-tank pump to accumulator) was leaking as well... so I am expecting the high pressure line to leak from the compression fitting when the high pressure pump kicks in ... SIGH!

                Some progress today..

During the process of changing out my cluster (dead MFA), discovered most of the foam (around wiring) have deterioated. So went to clark rubber to buy some new dense foam sheets and re-wrap wiring.

Also found a black box (circled in photo below) which I am curious to find out what is it for? I suspect its the immobliser that have been disabled. Anyone has this in their car as well??

I never saw a box like that when I had my dash out.

I have a contact that will repair the MFA. Got mine done for $70

                    looking good!

in regards to your headers and heat. Get them HPC (ceramic) coated, apparently quite effective!

Dude, keep plugging away and you'll get there.

I stuck the Weber on yesterday, no accelerator bracket was a pita, but she's on now and goes proper for a 1.6. Are you sure it was jetted for 1.8 as it is amazingly close to spot on with the Co2 reading I get.

If you find any other digi gear you need let me know.

Thanks for all the encouragement. Believe me, I am so eager to get it running and have a drive since i bought it.

Benough: I bought a 2nd hand cluster with working MFA for the swap already Hmmm.. so what is this box for??

Golfman: Thanks for the advice on the headers. I will leave as it is for now, just in case i do a engine swap down the line, may end up having to change the headers again.

Ryana: As for the dash mat, came with the car, don't know the origins, may sell it if i get to fix the cracks!.

Mike: Good to hear the weber was put to good use. Too be honest, I don't know if it was jetted for 1.8 as it came with the car when i bought it. Never ran right for me. I will hit you up if i need more parts along the way. But i am looking for front seats with the rainbow trim (mine fitted with audi seats now) to bring it back to stock, so i can fit those rail covers i got from you

Looks like the immobiliser box, one of the plugs should goto the ignition immobiliser ring and the other to the fusebox.

So if its the immo box, any chance this was fitted as standard in australia, wonder if there is a schematics for it. On the other hand, my key does not seem to have built in chip as i recently dupe a key and it started the car.

Been busy with work and limited time during the weekends. Here's a bit of update on the car.

After finishing wrapping the wiring with foam behind the dash, swapped in a cluster i bought earlier. Working MFA Screen finally!!!

Finally put every digifant injection bit back on engine.

And bypassed the heater core (was already bypassed by PO when carby was fitted) with nice bluey silicon hose and smoothed the curve with this australian invented thingy!

Fitted the Mk3 programmable wiper relay bought from VWvortex (togther with the annoying door chime for laughs).

Always love the Red Stripe on the front grill but mine didn't have one.. so decided to DIY

My fuel pump housing cracked and decided to go for reliability and knocked this up with bits bought off ebay. Doesn't look neat but at least it won't crack again! Managed to start the engine with no leaks... yet to road test.

Can't wait to put on the front grill and road test it finally... 4 months after i bought it!
