  • Rutti's Golf MK2 GTI-(RR)

    Hi all,

I have been wanting to post this since the day I bought the car slightly over a month ago, but due to busy work schedule and still learning about the car, this thread was delayed. Anyway, here it is... my GTI-RR!
Anyway you might ask why GTI-(RR)... cos its a got a permanent Roof Rack ...

Not exactly in mint condition and requires some love. But I am enjoying every minute trying to fix it.
Hopefully I have time and funds to restore the interior. And of course to get it on the road to have some fun!

    Things to do:-
    1. Convert from Carb back to Digifant (electronic ignition will not work properly with carb ) - In progress
    2. Replace heater core (appears the hoses been disconnected)
    3. Replace suspension (still on stock)
    4. Restore interior (I want those recaros back!!)
    5. Delete Roof Rack

Started putting the Digifant system back last weekend.

What the engine bay looked like with Weber 32/36

              Parts galore!

First was the Fuel Pump housing assembly... Had to patch up 2 minor hairline cracks on the accumulator. Fuel supply (hard plasticky)hose from filter and fuel tank appears to have been cut off. So looking to add fittings to join with rubber fuel hose to complete the connection

Found lube oil leaks possibly from end of dipstick tube. Is there an oring or something i can replace?

                Good work on the purchase.

Let me know if you want/need any pointers on the heater core swap out. You'll probably need to restore the foam on the heater box doors as well.

I will definately get some pointers when i get to that as I want to get the car running right on Digifant before anything else. But currently, the coolant outlet from the block goes into the intake manifold (carb setup) and returns to the water pump, I assume that bypassing the heat core is simply routing the outlet from block back to the water pump?

Got round to remove the Weber carb last weekend (It will be for sale shortly )

Contemplating if I should wrap the headers?

My 1st ever GAP order arrived this week!

Hope to get it running soon!

yeah the dipstick leak should just be the oring on the end.

AS for wrapping your headers, im sure there will be mixed opinions. Obviously its good for bay temperature, BUT the wrap does tend to hold moisture which can cause accelerated rusting of your headers.

Buzuki... thanks for confirming the o-ring. Hmm... maybe I should leave it as it is for now. But I am stuck now while trying to put the intake manifold on the head... I think the following is the heat shield and preheat hose (warm air hose?) , I know 1 end of the hose goes to the bottom of the airbox, and the other end to the heat shield.. BUT how and where do I mount the heat shield plate?? I assume it sits close to the exhaust manifold (which I now have a header in place) ... Anyone has photos/pictures how it should be mounted??

That weber/manifold set-up looks almost new!?
I bet your had a smile from ear to ear when that GAP package arrived

Also, IMO, in the aussie climate, you can do away the pre-heat pipe/setup, I have for the past year with no problems.

You are spot on.. the Weber/manifold was fitted just before i bought the car... thus the excellent condition!

Oh yes.. the GAP package was like receiving xmas pressie! Heee..

So without the pre-heat pipe setup, do i need to blank off any of the vacuum lines on the airbox? How is yours set up? Any photos to share?
