    Hoyhoy.
I spent some time with John yesterday, mucking about on the beast.
We changed the rear calipers & now have no brakes, couldn't get rid of the air out of the system. I was in controll of the bleeding side of things as to the best of my memory, but just couldn't get rid of the air. Mechanics job now.
He has already started cleaning her up & its looking like something, should be nice when finished.
    Hooroo.

Might need to custom fab up a new grille! Those lights look unique - Jetta lights look taller and shorter than those. They reminded me of Rallye edition headlights, but after a check, the Rallye ones were one piece, whereas those look two-piece... even if they were Rallye-style headlights, it might be hard trying to find a Rallye grille!

finally picked up my baby last night..needs some tlc.radio surround is broken-2 x ATS cup center caps missing(where do I find those)-a small exhaust rattle that needs to be found ,somewhere in the middle, maybe thats why the CAT light is flashing.and more importantly the power steering fliuid is low and making that whinning noise.BUT overall it drives so smooth and straight,,ohhhhh anyone know where the compliance plate is ?? jap import and I cant find it.will post up some of my photos tomorrow !!

They didn't come out until around 1990.

If its a personal import it needs high level brake light and child restraint points. It will have no compliance plate and could have come in to the country anytime as a personal import.

So you're saying if it's an Australian one it doesn't need a high level brake light, but a private import does?

Mine is compliance plated (1992) and has no high level brake light, but 3 child restraint points...

Just found out my master cylinder needs replacing This after I just replaced the rear brake calipers ($450), and spent $350 in the auto electrician getting the wiring dramas sorted out...

So at the moment all I have is a pretty (and expensive) paperweight...

                            Just having a cry...

Sad, but true in my experience.

The child restraint point rules are more severe for imports too.
