  • Mk2 2 Door with a bark :)

So have had this project brewing for a while, finally got some tiime this week to make it happen.

Its being built to a spec for a customer, who sent the car up from Melbourne.

The car is John Golfers old 2 door, that rolled in here with a tired old 8v engine and a faulty kjet system.

Crappy shot of the beast on a hoist

Its gonna need bigger brakes, thats for sure

Close up of the 280mm brake setup, which gives it VR6 brakes, but keeps the car 4 stud.

We used a Mk3 GL subframe, power steering rack, swaybars and A arms.

This allows you to bolt up the Mk3 Hubs, which would give you 256mm disks and meaty calipers.

I used 280mm VR6 calipers and carriers, which bolt to the Mk3 Hub with no modifications and by using a Cupra 16v disk, gives 280mm 4x100 stopping glory.

I chose the Mk3 GL width, as VR6 widetrack looks very wide on a Mk2 and limits wheel choices.

Sneak peak of whats cooking under the bonnet

I think the owner still has the RS`s in Melbourne, it came on a transporter on battered old Mk3 14s, but now they dont fit with the brakes.
Put some 16 " mags on for now, but I reckon it will end up with a cooler set.

Gotta finish the exhaust and bleed the brakes, then we will take it for a fang.

Pushed into the light yesterday for a quick photo.

That's exactly what that car needed, nice work. How many hours was in the conversion?

The power to weight must be epic on these. You buy it for yourself Matt or is a customer getting the work done? Last I saw it was not on the market.

Nice bit of skim reading, read the thread...it's a customer car as stated twice!

Very tidy conversion. Roughly how much would this cost, not including a donor car?

iPhone, pics, conversion, you get the picture - no pun.

GIO are for details, not mikinoz!
