          Do you wanna be loud?
My old old car = loudest in tassie 2 x 15in.
My old Polo = best sound quality car in tassie 1 x 12in.
But yeah - love subs, fit as many as you can in a nice install! (but beware if there is a bad bog job on your car - it will rattle that out...)
I'm going to the pub... I may be some time...

spyda has 1 x 12" sub with his own custom box that will make your brain turn to mash potato, if you buy the right stuff and build a good box you can get away with just the one man its not about quantity, its about quality , nothing better than embarressing people with like 20 subs squeezed into there car lol, anyway how you gunna get the spare out with so many subs?? lol

                  Lots of subs are fun.

You can get more power with 1 decent sub and a good amp (or 2 amps if it has dual voice coils) than 50 dodgy ones. The physics of it is that for every extra sub putting out the same power, you are adding 3db. Double the watts, add 3 db.

I think that 1 good sub in a really well braced box is more than enough, but if you already have them, then why not continue.

What subs are they? Think I'd go for a nice Eclipse sub if they are still a good company...

If all 3 subs are going into your car, a 18+ year old MK2 (I guess)
How bigger chance do you think there is of every slightly loose panel, screw, piece of plastic and metal rattling with each DOOF of the subs?
I didn't know a MK2 alternator could power 3 subs along with everything else

Its all about the design. A good box should not flex, or atleast very little, so only the sub is the sound source. I had a pair of 15's in a Corolla Longback, the box and surrounding pillows, cushions, etc took up the whole boot.

My left ear has never been the same...

ive redone my sound system and am now running a single sub on 500wrms and with 2 powercaps and it is amazing the amount of bass im getting from one sub.

3 subs are to much when you can get 1 that will be louder than all 3.

I dont understand why people are suprised that one sub can pump louder than 3 or 4 or even 5 subs. Its not about the fully sic watts or the fully sic size. Its about the amount of air the sub can move. Look at a subs Xmax then multiply it by the area and that will give you the amount of air that it will be able to move at peak power.
The more air that is displased the more bass.
You also have to consider how fast it can move that air, thats where the Qmes (i think thats the one) comes in. This also plays a big part in choosing a sub according to the type of music you listen to.

You also have to remember that about 80% of the bass comes from the enclosure, thats why my one 12" is able to make the window wipers dance on the front windscreen when playing music.

Power caps are for loosers and ive posted why in the car audio section.

A mk2 with air con has a 70amp alt. Most amplifiers have power ratings that are @ 14.4v. Most alt will only produce their rate current at about 4-6k rpm. So you have 70a x 14.4v = 1008watts. In a perfect world you should be able to use 1000watts without droping voltage but id say in a mk2 its more like 500-600watts peak once you factor in the ESR and the draw of verything else in the car.

without the powercaps every light that was on would basically turn off as soon as the sub kicked in
