top two pics are when it had the std bbs ra wheels, bottom two was when i sold it and it had bmw rims.

What are the wheels that are on this flog? I've not seen them before? Where they a special to the rallye edition?

Called teardrops, came out on early mk2's and probably made by Pirelli before VW went BBS.

I sear I've seen them on an oldschool MR2 (wedge type) before... Is it possible VW and Toyota both had the same rims at around the same period??

Correct MR2 used similar/same wheel. I sold a set (to a member of this forum of course) awhile ago however toyota one would have smaller centre bore.

The ones on the 16v 3dr are the Toyota teardrops.

true, but they still don't look as good as a set of Audi A8's

Yea I've seen a set of the toyota ones polished up, with a nice thick clear coat on em and I rekcon they looked a treat. Would work well on a mk 1 with lots of chrome etc imo. ie any mk 1 that has porsche rims or polished Pslots, they would work on a car like this:
