I dont beleive this is true, with what parts, VW or other ? What are the anomalies ?
different pullies and compressors, that cant be interchanged as the belts dont line up. System is different on 1990 and 1992 car.
It could just have been messed with, but I am basing this on more than one car.

by the way when i put the air con on sometimes the battery light comes on is that signalling i need a new battery ? ??
This is almost certainly the compressor belt slipping as syncro says. It happens on a wet road when even small amounts of spray get thrown up onto the belt. You need to fit a gravel tray under the pulley to shield the belt. So far as I know VW didn't make one. I have seen a plastic one that was made in Italy (maybe the Italian cars had aircon too). Otherwise you need to make something up yourself or get one made. A panel shop or sheet metal shop is probably the way to get one made.
Its a real bug on these cars because the demister starts the compressor to force the air through the pollen filter and since you mostly need the demister when you're on a wet road ...
The demister/compressor story makes me think the aircon cars might have a unique wiring loom too.
The guards are the same on Golf 3s and Seat Cordobas. I have several too. Pm me if you want one.
